Light and bright is the way to go in Singapore where it’s sultry summer all year round. There are a myriad of ways to indulge in some psychedelic fun, running the gamut from peeks of muted floral to candy coloured stripes, flashy hues and full-on efflorescence. But hold your horses, because we want to brave the weather with aplomb, and what better way to do so than to ditch all the stark razzle-dazzle for some clean neon accents that exude style and subtle poise? Accessorise an all-white outfit with a pop of colour on the wrist or even a bright pink pout, and you’re guaranteed a couple of appreciative ganders even without adorning yourself in a riot of colours. A tip for the adventurous: D-I-Y spray-paint the toe cap or the heel of a pair of monotone shoes (with neon paint from your neighbourhood hardware store), and voila! – An instantaneous update to a plain accessory that adds serious style oomph and is bang-on-trend. The trick is to dole out neon colours in small amounts, letting the unexpected sliver of detail add panache to a simple outfit without the cluttering effect. We’re not condemning froufrou and full-blown florals (we still love you Mary Katrantzou!), but arm yourself with this sleek style tip for less flamboyant days, and you’ll be well on your way to sanguine spirits, a spring in your step and some fun in the sun!
