March 31st 2012 marked the Gala Fashion Show of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s Fashion Design and Merchandising Graduating Students. Held at Sofitel Philippine Plaza’s Harbour Tent, the Gala Fashion Show was also a night to introduce new and emerging young talents in the industry.

48 student designers were tasked to design and construct 3 Avant Garde pieces on their own and under their chosen themes – Afrocentric, Patriotic, Festival Glam, Futuristic, and Fusion.

Most of the materials used for the construction of the garments were not just plain fabrics. Instead, students were taught to conceptualize thoroughly, experiment and utilize a variety of tools (e.g. acrylic sheets, dyed ropes, metal plates, led lights, ducting, carved woods) in order to execute a garment that is truly haute couture.
